Questions / answers
How long should I wait before opening the windows after tinting?
48 hours, in winter as well as in summer.
Does it have many qualities of solar film?
Yes, however, Dr. Tint Tinted Glass only uses the premium (metallic) film from Xpel Ultimate and Suntek
Can the film damage the rear defroster?
Absolutely not, it even protects it from small scratches.
On the road, we sometimes see tinted windows completely purple or full of bubbles, why?
Some shops apply poor quality solar film (the film turns purple after some time) in an environment that is not clean (bubbles).
Is the film you are applying the same as the one sold at Canadian Tire?
No, the film we install is of much higher quality (metalized) and is guaranteed for life against all defects.
Why is it necessary to leave 1 to 2 mm without film on the edge of the side windows?
The film must not stick out at any point, otherwise it will come off.
What product is used to clean the inside of the windows after the installation of solar films?
Simply with water and hand paper, or a well rinsed wet chamois.
Do the films last long?
Absolutely, they are guaranteed for life for automobiles. Commercial glass is guaranteed for 10 years.
Why do you remove the interior window cleaners from the vehicle doors when applying the tints?
Because it's the only way to get the job done to ensure that the film will never come off when the windows are rolled down.
Are tinted windows legal in Quebec?
Compliance with Quebec's window tinting laws
In Quebec, personalizing your vehicle's windows is allowed, but specific laws must be followed to ensure compliance and safety. Here are the key rules from the SAAQ regarding window tinting:
- Windshield: Applying darkening materials is prohibited on most of the windshield. However, a tinted strip is allowed on the top part, provided it does not exceed 15 cm (approximately 6 inches) in width.
- Front side windows: These windows must allow at least 70% of light to pass through. The use of a photometer is required to verify this requirement, ensuring adequate visibility for driving.
- Rear side and back windows: There are no restrictions for tinting the rear side windows or the back window, offering you more freedom to enhance your comfort and privacy.
Adhering to these standards not only ensures you remain within the law but also contributes to your safety and that of other road users.
What are the advantages of tinting the windows of our vehicle besides the aesthetics?

We are expecting a child. Would it be a good idea to have tinted windows installed?
Tinted windows are the best accessory to install on a vehicle when we have children! They will be protected from the sun's harmful rays, so they will be much less agitated.
From the inside, do we see as well on the outside with tinted windows?
Absolutely, the film is designed to see equally well with or without film.
The law on tinted windows
If you decide to tint the windows of your vehicle, there are certain rules you must follow:
- No darkening material may be applied or sprayed on the windshield. However, a strip of no more than 15 cm in width may be placed on the upper part of the windshield;
- The side windows on each side of the driver’s compartment must allow 70% or more light through when measured with a light meter.
Remember that the interior of the vehicle and its occupants must be visible. A window that is too tinted :
- reduces the field of vision
- impairs contrast perception;
- affects the driver’s night vision.
Rear side windows and the rear window are not subject to this standard.
Fines* for glass
If your vehicle’s front side windows allow less than 70% of the light to pass through, you are subject to a fine. Here are two examples:
Example 1
A peace officer stops your vehicle and takes a photometric reading of the front side windows. The windows allow less than 70% of the light through. The officer issues you a statement of offence. The fine varies as follows:
Driver AND owner of a passenger vehicle: $154 to $274
Driver of a heavy vehicle: $125 to $344
Owner of a heavy vehicle: $249 to $525
Example 2
A peace officer stops your vehicle and gives you a notice to check the front side windows of your vehicle, requiring you to go to a mechanical inspection agent designated by the Society. Failure to have the inspection performed will result in a fine of $438 to $865. If the agent declares that the windows are not in compliance, he or she will issue a notice requiring the owner or driver to make the required modifications or have them made within 48 hours. The agent will be required to recheck the windows for compliance after that time. If the corrections are not made within the required time, the vehicle cannot be returned to the road. If you are still driving the vehicle, you may :
Receive a violation ticket that makes you liable for a fine of $154 to $274 per defect;
be required to store your vehicle at your own expense until a photometric check certifies that your vehicle’s windows are in compliance.
*These amounts, subject to change, include the fine provided for in the Highway Safety Code, court fees and a contribution to the IVAC (other fees may be added).
